Syston Allotment Society
The Allotments
We are a 7 acre allotment plot run and managed by the local council. We have a committee of seven members (there is no limit on committee members) consisting of a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary with additional posts of Town Council Liaison Officer and Poultry Warden. We have water present supplied by the council in about ten taps to serve the 74 plots which have been partly divided to make 104 plots currently. There is in excess of 40 people on the waiting list (at September 2010).
The Shop
We have a small docking container which we have given a roof and guttering (and bird boxes), from which we sell competitively priced compost, pellet feed, liquid feed and a number of small items including bamboo canes, string and lime. There is almost no mark-up on the prices and we get the stock direct from the wholesaler. Nonetheless, we had enough funds in 2009 to subsidise a trip to Barnsdale Gardens near Rutland Water for 30+ plot-holders. Note that our trip to the Three Counties Show for 2011 has been postponed.
The Committee
Our committee is elected each year at the AGM. Our current Treasurer, due to lack of interest from other plot-holders, was at one time the Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary and since Spring we have elected a new Chairman and a the position of Secretary is up for grabs. The committee are:
Treasurer
Chair & Poultry Warden
Secretary
